Kartel to surrender

Popular deejay Vybz Kartel, who was among six St Catherine men described as major persons of interest by the police yesterday, has agreed to turn himself in for interrogation today.

Kartel's surrender was arranged through his attorneys last night, hours after the police asked all six men to report to the nearest police station.

The artiste, whose real name is Adidja Palmer, told The Gleaner he had no idea why he was being sought by the police.

The others being sought are Omar Lawrence, also called 'Hommie', from Anglin Lane, Newland; Seymour Johnson, a.k.a. 'Bulb Eye' from Braeton - Phase One, Portmore; Paul Smith, otherwise called 'Kerone' and 'Biggs', from Big Lane, Central Village; Oneil Myurrie, alias 'Neily', from Little Lane, in Central Village; and Damion Perry, a.k.a. 'Tillyman', from Old Harbour Bay.

On Monday, the police also released a list of six men who they asked to turn themselves in.

One of them, Craig Dawson, better known as 'Shopkeeper', surrendered at the Matilda's Corner Police Station yesterday.

Curfew update

Meanwhile, 154 persons have been detained by the police in two separate curfews imposed in sections of St Catherine and Clarendon since Monday.

Some 207 rounds of ammunition have also been seized.

In a statement yesterday, the police said 55 of the 102 persons held in St Catherine had been processed and released.

Three were arrested and charged with various offences, including shooting with intent and possession of marijuana, while the remaining 44 were questioned and transferred to the Mobile Reserve division for more interrogation.

The 52 men detained in Clarendon are still being questioned and at least one is expected to face criminal charges.
