Kamala Harris on course to becoming the next US president

THE EDITOR, Madam:

I am writing with reference to the article, ‘Undecided Jamaicans in diaspora await convention speech to decide on Harris‘, published in The Gleaner on August 14.

I have voted 10 times in US presidential elections and I will be voting for the presidential nominee of the Democratic Party, Kamala Harris.

Harris is on the course of winning the 2024 presidential election against Donald Trump, but the margin will be close. She will be the first female president of the United States whose parents are from India and Jamaica.

She has the focus, and she is sustaining the momentum.

As the election counts down to November 5, former President Trump leads Harris by one point in a national poll of registered voters released August 14.

Harris leads Trump in the swing states of Arizona, Michigan, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. She is tied in the swing state of Georgia with Trump. Trump still holds a slim lead in the swing state of Nevada, but Harris has narrowed this margin by six points since May, the report found.

Swing states can be won by either party, and no party can win the presidential election without winning a substantial amount of the swing states.

The 2024 presidential election is competitive, and, as the election counts down, Harris is significantly narrowing Trump’s lead.
