Taxi drivers must be more responsible
THE EDITOR, Madam:
The home, church, and school are the pillars that shape the development of our children. Equally significant, however, is the transportation system, which plays a vital role in their daily lives.
After leaving home in the mornings, the next major influencer for many children is the taxi or bus driver.
It is deeply concerning and disheartening to witness some taxi drivers in Linstead, St Catherine exploiting this role by using their vehicles as platforms for inappropriate entertainment under the guise of “giving the students what they want”. This includes playing explicit, crass, and lewd music that promotes a “Romping Shop” culture. Such actions are not only irresponsible but also contribute to the negative sexual grooming of impressionable young minds.
To those who engage in this appalling behavior: remember that children are a heritage of the Lord. Your actions, whether knowingly or unknowingly, are aiding and abetting harm to their innocence. There are consequences – both moral and societal – for such recklessness, and no dancehall anthem will save you from accountability.
Let us remember our collective responsibility to protect, guide, and nurture the next generation. The freedom you exploit today could lead to bondage tomorrow if we fail to safeguard the well-being of our children.
