THE EDITOR, Madam:

Congratulations are in order for US President-elect Donald Trump on being named Time magazine’s Person of the Year for 2024. Well deserved, sir, and I totally agree, for a comeback of historic proportions. What a legend, what a guy, he’s got so much clout and swagger, he is the definition of political aura. Harris could never, haters gonna hate.

Joe Biden’s decision to give Ukraine the green light to use long range missiles supplied by the US to strike Russia is insanity. How could anybody call Trump the instigator of WW3? Peace, no more dying, nobody wins in a war. Donald Trump is spot on about NATO. It’s an alliance, they all have to pay a fair share, and that is two per cent of their GDP on defence. If tenants aren’t paying their rent, they need to be evicted. Simple as that. It is boldfaced and selfish for anybody to be upset if the US decides to leave NATO if this continues, because members have been riding the back of the American taxpayer for too long, and it has to stop.

The sole purpose of NATO’s formation is a deterrent to the expansion of the Soviet Union (Russia), and having a gang of these alliance nations on Russia’s front lawn is a threat, and a threat that Russia could not risk if they did not act. This war would not have happened if Ukraine was simply not allowed to join NATO, for Ukraine’s sake, for the sake of peace.
