Is Pearnel Charles Jr ABLE?

THE EDITOR, Madam:

Minister Pearnel Charles Jr made mention recently of a new programme to be launched called I am able. The programme, he says, will focus on abilities of all Jamaicans and will serve to inspire all with a particular focus on persons with disabilities, senior citizens and Jamaicans struggling with economic situations.

I am supportive of this concept and have a few recommendations for the minister on ways to expand the reach of this transformative initiative.

Minister Charles, you should consider these three things:

1. Ramp up a national campaign to involve corporate Jamaica to invest in the activities of the I am Able programme. Each company should sponsor a project.

2. Start school competitions to excite our students into action with their own ideas and creative projects.

3. Identify a special day to celebrate the I Am Able concept to ensure all Jamaicans can participate even once in the national activities.

I like the concept and want to see this in action.
