PNP Rally |Golding: Jamaicans want PNP back in power, not surprised by poll showing us ahead

People’s National Party (PNP) President Mark Golding says he is not surprised by the latest Don Anderson poll that show his party slightly ahead of the ruling Jamaica Labour Party, arguing that the JLP is desperate to maintain power.
Golding was speaking with The Gleaner shortly after his keynote address at the PNP’s mass rally at Sam Sharpe Square in Montego Bay, St James on Sunday night, ahead of Wednesday’s general election.
"That does not surprise me, because I have been on the ground almost every day, travelling all over Jamaica, and the response that I get suggests to me that the people definitely want to see the PNP get back into office to serve them and to serve the nation in the way that they know the PNP can be relied on to do," said Golding.
"I believe we are going to be victorious, and I am sure we will be victorious on September 3," Golding continued.
The latest RJRGLEANER-commissioned Don Anderson poll indicates that 37.6 per cent of 1,010 respondents will vote for the PNP, compared to 34.5 per cent who said they will vote for the JLP.
Some 23.1 per cent of respondents are undecided, and 4.8 per cent indicated that they will not vote.
Golding said the PNP will have to put in additional work to defeat the JLP at the polls.
"We know we are up against a government that is led by a party that is desperate to hang on to power. We will have to do what we have to do to get the votes in the box — lawfully, peacefully, but in a very determined and strategic way — and we are ready for that," said Golding.
