Red cards and walk-off mar STETHS vs Kemps Hill daCosta Cup match
Today’s must-see game between St Elizabeth Technical High and Kemps Hill High in the opening of the round of 16 in the ISSA daCosta Cup competition was marred by verbal clashes with game officials and a walk-off by Kemps Hill players, which saw the team's goal being left empty, to the advantage of STETHS.
In the 83rd minute, Kemps Hill’s Ricardo Dean was issued a second red card for using abusive language towards officials.
Earlier, in the 43rd minute, after a penalty was awarded to STETHS, Kemps Hill’s goalkeeper Omario Chambers was issued a red card for abusive language towards the referee.
With the second card, this brought an already desperate Kemps Hill team, which was down 3-0, to nine players.
The no-call for what Kemps Hill’s Shemar Daley thought was a penalty in the box made the moment very intense and eventually flared into a heated exchange between the Kemps Hill team and officials.
The game was delayed and saw Kemps Hill players walking off the field eight minutes before the official end of the match.
Players were also seen arguing with the referee, whom they accused of being biased throughout the game.
It didn’t end there, as Kemps Hill’s substitute goalkeeper left his goal and came to the bench to join the rest of the players.
Eventually, the match resumed, but the Kemps Hill players stood in the middle of the field with the team’s goal empty, allowing STETHS’s Wayne Brown to easily put one in to finish the game 4-0.
"Go and talk to the referee; a fi dem game," was a remark given to The Gleaner when we tried to get a comment from the Kemps Hill management team.
One STETHS spectator said, "Unuh fi get banned. Unuh don’t have any behaviour and head too hot.”
