Mavado's son Dantay again charged by police
Dantay Brooks, the son of dancehall superstar Mavado, has been charged with gun-related offences.
He was charged yesterday with assault at common law, unlawful wounding, possession of a prohibited weapon and using a prohibited weapon to commit a scheduled offence.
Sources close to the investigation told The Gleaner that Brooks is also being investigated for another firearm-related crime.
The current charges stem from an incident in Cassava Piece, St Andrew, in the vicinity of 'Pon Di Gaza' on July 12 about 9:30 p.m.
Brooks was freed in March this year after the Court of Appeal overturned his 2021 conviction for the murder of Lorenzo Thomas.
His co-accused, Andre Hinds, was also freed.
Prosecutors had led evidence that Brooks and Hinds were among five men who entered a house and shot Thomas before pushing his father into another room.
That killing took place in Cassava Piece on June 5, 2018.
Mavado, whose given name is David Brooks, returned to Jamaica last week, after seven years away from the island while a warrant for his arrest languished.
A day after his return, the dancehall entertainer met with the police and the warrant was vacated.
