Rising water levels have flooded some homes in a section of Content in Williamsfield, Manchester and have left parts of the main road impassable.
The underground water is believed to be associated with heavy rains brought by Hurricane Melissa, which hit Jamaica last week Tuesday.
The police are urging motorists to use alternative routes where possible.
Videos posted online show residents raising concerns about the rising water levels.
Several homes are under water.
