An alleged suspect in the Christmas Day double murder along March Pen Road, Spanish Town, was shot dead early this morning during an alleged confrontation with police in St Catherine.

The deceased has been identified as Damion McDonald, 43, otherwise called 'Jilla,' an unemployed resident of March Pen Road.

Police report that around 12:20 a.m., officers acting on intelligence linked to the Christmas Day killings went to Mocklenn Crescent in search of suspects.

Upon entering a residence and knocking on the back door, McDonald was reportedly observed holding a firearm, which he aimed at the officers.

In response, police say they took defensive action, firing at McDonald.

He fell while clutching the weapon and was rushed to Spanish Town Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The weapon was seized.

Both the Independent Commission of Investigations and the Inspectorate of Professional Standards Oversight Bureau are probing the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
