Drivers in St Ann, St Mary and Portland urged to exercise caution amid flooding from persistent rainfall
The National Works Agency (NWA) is advising drivers and other road users in St Ann, St Mary and Portland to exercise caution, as persistent rainfall has resulted in flooding, blocked drains and siltation affecting roads.
NWA Manager of Communication and Customer Services Stephen Shaw said the impacted areas are mostly along the coast between Ocho Rios, St Ann, and Port Antonio, Portland.
In St Mary, flooding is being experienced in Rio Nuevo, Stewart Town and Port Maria. The NWA also reported that the Mother Ford drain in Annotto Bay is at full capacity.
Shaw said that the main roads through St Margaret’s Bay, Orange Bay and Windsor Castle are among the corridors in Portland being affected.
Motorists are being reminded not to attempt to use heavily flooded roads, while pedestrians are being urged to avoid such areas.
The NWA said the eastern parishes are being impacted by rainfall associated with a trough.
