St Elizabeth man charged over alleged cocaine bust at Sangster airport to seek bail
The St Elizabeth farmer facing criminal charges in connection with the alleged seizure of approximately $30 million worth of cocaine in three suitcases at Sangster International Airport last month was remanded during his first court appearance on Friday.
The cocaine, weighing 48 kilogrammes (110 pounds), was found in several sachets labelled “porridge mix”, “coconut powder”, “festival mix”, “mega punch” and “cock soup mix”, sources revealed.
Renaldo Brooks maintained his innocence during the brief hearing before a judge at the St James Parish Court.
He is scheduled to return to court on February 16 for a bail application, his attorney, Donnovan Collins, confirmed.
Brooks has been charged with possession of, dealing in, attempting to export, and conspiracy to export cocaine.
According to sources, the suitcases containing the illegal drugs were discovered shortly before passengers began boarding a flight destined for Canada.
Brooks was named a person of interest by police investigators before he surrendered at the Summit Police Station, accompanied by Collins.
