FRESH OFF her 60-metre success three days ago at the Muller Indoor meet in Birmingham, Jamaica’s Elaine Thompson Herah will be hoping not just to make it back-to-back wins when she competes at the Orlen Copernicus Cup in Torun, Poland, the sixth and penultimate meet of the World Athletics Indoor Tour Gold series, but also to break the seven-second barrier.

Thompson Herah, who won in Birmingham in a season best 7.08 seconds, the fourth fastest time in the event in the world, will be up against Poland’s Ewa Swoboda, the world leader with seven seconds.

Like Thompson Herah, Swoboda is coming off a win, clocking 7.10 seconds in Dusseldorf and with home support she will be hoping to get the better of the Jamaican and remain unbeaten in the event.

Following her win in Birmingham, Thompson Herah said her aim was to dip under seven seconds in Birmingham to improve on her personal best of 6.98 done in 2017.

“I was hoping to dip below seven seconds but it didn’t work out,” she said.

Thompson Herah thinks there is more of a chance for her to get below seven seconds today because the event has two rounds.

“With heats and finals in Torun, I think that will help me to get below the seven-second barrier,” she said.

Olympian, Roneisha MacGregor, who is competing Indoors for the first-time this season, will be the other Jamaican down to compete at the meet.

In what has been a busy season so far, MacGregor will once again contest the women’s 400m where she will be hoping to improve on her season and personal best of 52.32 seconds.
