ZONE A ISSA daCosta Cup rivals Cornwall College and St James High School failed to separate themselves from each other in a 0-0 scoreline at the Cornwall College playing field yesterday.

According to Cornwall’s head coach, Hector Wright, complacency had much to do with the eventual scoreline.

“I think coming off that six-nil played a part in them playing lacklustre. It was a lousy performance and hopefully, in the game on Saturday they will pick themselves up,” said Wright, who emphasised the need for his charges to stay grounded.

Wright stated that the team should use the game against St James High as a marker going forward.

“We are going into the game with normal preparation on Saturday against Irwin. We try not to emphasise what the next team is doing, but more on what we are going to do,” added Wright.

Cornwall were the more dominant team but were unable to make any significant moves to win their second game of the season.

The boys from Orange street threw their fair share of punches, but encountered stout defending from Cornwall as well.

In the first half, Cornwall’s Carlondo Morris, Mekhi Foster, and Demarco Finnikin missed multiple chances to go ahead.

In the second half, the tempo of the game increased but the goalscoring opportunities still diminished, with both goalkeepers finding themselves with less work to do.

St James High’s head coach, Bryan Stoney said the game felt like a win for his team.

“Getting a draw for some of the players is a win, because it has been a while since St James High had a result like that or a win against Cornwall College,” said Stoney.

“We have quite a few new players who had goosebumps just playing today. We made some adjustments and played a more tactical game,” added Stoney, who expected a draw.
