Struggling Treasure Beach, Harbour View share the spoils
Struggling teams Treasure Beach FC and Harbour View FC played to a 1-1 draw in their Jamaica Premier League round-six match at the Montego Bay Sports Complex yesterday.
In the cool conditions, Harbour View’s Trayvon Reid put his team in the lead in the 15th minute before Treasure Beach’s Raheem Porter levelled the score in the 30th minute. Both teams are tied on six points in the standings in 11th and 12th spots, with Treasure Beach ahead on goal difference.
Head coach for Treasure Beach, Kemar Ricketts, emphasised the importance of accumulating points to stay in the league.
“It is not how you fall, it is how you get up. I think this is one more point to what we want to achieve, which is to stay in the league,” Ricketts said, while also stating that there are things to improve on.
“We have scored in every game, but we have also conceded goals. We need to put a stop to conceding, then we will be okay. We have to defend better,” Ricketts added, noting that this will be the focus in the next couple of days.
Meanwhile, assistant coach for Harbour View Sydney McFarlane said the team needs to approach each match strategically.
“We will assess all things and decide how we will approach them, in terms of how to defend and attack to get the result required,” said McFarlane.
McFarlane identified the team’s primary need for an improvement on finishing.
“We got a couple of chances and did not take them. We scored first and were on top, so we should have capitalised and go for the win,” added McFarlane.
Reid weaved his way through the Treasure Beach defence before fiercely striking the ball from just outside the 18-yard area to open the scoring. The lead lasted for just 15 minutes, as Treasure Beach’s Porter rose highest to head home a cross from teammate Jahiem Harris to bring his team level.
In the second half, Harbour View were the dominant team and created clear-cut chances to take the lead, but Treasure Beach’s goalkeeper Mowey Morgan kept them out with some brilliant saves.
