ANOTHER ONE (right), ridden by Shane Ellis, wins the Mother’s Day Special ahead of LOCKDOWN (Paul Francis) over five furlongs straight at Caymanas Park on Saturday, May 10.

Saturday’s feature, the Security Department Trophy, is a complex five-furlong straight event in which varying factors, most notably the track bias and handicaps, could turn the race on its head.

Anthony Nunes’ ANOTHER ONE could start favourite as a course-specialist with punters’ sentiments leaning towards returning champion jockey Raddesh Roman.

Though ANOTHER ONE’s last three races out the straight, two of which he won, were sub-59.0 times, the mid-track draw, from where he outfinished COMMANDER Z and HUNTSMAN on December 14, will be a tougher ask among overnight-allowance winners.

Having stablemate SMART TRICK, NORBLAR, ZULU WARRIOR, and COOKIE DAY N NIGHT breaking from stalls seven to 10, respectively, puts ANOTHER ONE in a spot of bother.

Dane Nelson had to wait until COMMANDER Z and COMEHOMETOME ran themselves into the ground in 45.4 before rousing ANOTHER ONE inside the final furlong. Even then, COMMANDER Z rallied on the faster stands’ side to get within a nose at the wire.

Since fitted with a figure-eight for his last three races, SMART TRICK appears to be holding his gallop better. Having placed second to MIDNIGHT FLIGHT’s 58.3 at the trip last May, SMART TRICK is not to be underestimated with 115lb, seven pounds lighter and better drawn than stablemate ANOTHER ONE.

NORBLAR, drawn next to SMART TRICK, galloped 59.3 from the gate at exercise in November. He chased MIGHTY GULLY a week later, finishing third behind 58.3 off a near four-month break.

Reporting at 114lb, six-year-old NORBLAR has the back-class, speed, and perfect draw to claim the stands’ side as his own, considering he is also a strong closer.

ZULU WARRIOR has no record worth mentioning at five furlongs straight but has a great draw as well and is super fit, enough to stalk and pounce on the speedsters from his mark of 121lb.

COOKIE DAY N NIGHT ran terribly in visor behind ANOTHER ONE out the straight on December 14. Note the equipment has been discarded, reverting to barefaced as he ran when chasing CALIFORNIA CROWN at five and a half furlongs on November 29.

The Security Department Trophy race presents a minefield of possibilities in which every caution should be taken.
