Henry’s heroics fail again as Capitals lose second game

NAVI MUMBAI, India (CMC):

West Indies Women all-rounder Chinelle Henry grabbed two wickets, but her Delhi Capitals Women lost a nail-biter by four runs to the Gujarat Giants Women when the Women’s Premier League (WPL) continued on Sunday.

Henry, who hit a blistering half-century on Saturday in her side’s opening loss to the Mumbai Indians Women, took 2-43 this time around as the Giants posted a sizeable 209 in their 20 overs after being sent in at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy.

Player of the Match Sophie Devine struck a superb 95 off just 42 balls with eight sixes and seven fours, while captain Ashleigh Gardner made 49 off 26.

Nandani Sharma finished with the impressive figures of 5-33 from her four overs, including a hat-trick, while Shree Charani took 2-42.

Despite a magnificent innings from Lizelle Lee, who scored 86 off 54 balls, inclusive of 12 fours and three sixes, and Laura Wolvaardt, who belted 77 off 38 balls with nine fours and three sixes, the Capitals fell just short, finishing on 205 for five.

Henry managed just seven runs from six balls before being dismissed by Rajeshwari Gayakwad.

Devine led the way with the ball as well, taking 2-21, while Gayakwad snared 2-34 for the Giants, who moved to the top of the table with two wins from two matches.
