A welcome source of comfort

Published:Tuesday | May 18, 2010 | 12:00 AM

The Editor, Sir:

Amid all the shouts and clamouring for the resignation of our prime minister, the letter from the Reverend Michael Friday to Mr Golding published in The Gleaner of May 15, was a welcome source of comfort and relief for me, and I am certain, for others.

The sane and obviously well-considered advice given to the prime minister, and the encouragement to be courageous and to seek after and pursue the truth, regardless of the consequences, whatever it may be, was indeed timely, particularly against the background of the promise, from the servant of God, to support him with fervent prayer, which I am confident will be backed up by thousands of Jamaicans.

Against the background of the ongoing clamour, while understanding and being deeply upset concerning the underlying issues and the concern for the good name of our country, I must confess that at the same time, I grieve for Mr Golding and any others involved, but am hopeful that he will heed the advice given.

For myself, I am reminded of the injunction from the Lord Jesus Christ Himself, "He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone". We should all be conscious of our own frailties and I am constantly reminded that "there but for the grace of God go I"; and, I assume, that this is shared by you, Mr Editor, and all members of your staff and, indeed, "all who have sinned and come short of the glory of God".

We should be thankful that there is forgiveness, salvation and redemption through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and by His grace and mercy.

I am, etc.,

A SINNER SAVED BY GRACE
