Merciless JCC

The Editor, Sir:

I am disappointed in the way the Jamaica Council of Churches has joined in the multitude in meting out judgement without mercy on the leader of this nation. The Church is supposed to be the voice of God in the world. We all stand condemned before God. If God should mark iniquity, none of us would be left standing.

Our prime minister, Bruce Golding, did wrong before the nation's eyes. He admitted his wrong, publicly apologised and has repented. What would Jesus do in such a case? According to the Bible, the word of God - Proverbs 28:13: "He that covereth his sin shall not prosper. But whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy. I remember the song, "Mercy there was great and grace was free. Pardon there was multiplied to me, there my burdened soul found liberty at Calvary."

Many chances

God has given us many chances. He has given all of us, believers and non-believers alike. Church, let us not join in with the voice of the masses. The masses who said "Crucify him! Stone her! Away with him." Let us, instead, speak with the voice of God: "Our Father, forgive him."

I thank God for exposing corruption and evil wherever it may be found - in the Church, society and inside our very own Government. This must be done so that there can be a cleansing, a healing and restoration.

I am, etc.,
