Faulty editorial
The Editor, Sir:
Your editorial of May 18, 'Why the JLP kept Golding', which claims, "The likelihood is that most of the (current ministers of government), for various reasons, would be unattractive (as prime minister) to the majority of Jamaicans," needs to be explained. Where is your evidence of this? You cannot just make statements at this critical time without supporting them. You are not helping us when you do this sort of thing.
For example, what specifically would Jamaicans find unattractive about Christopher Tufton or Delroy Chuck? Are you saying that the Jamaican people prefer men and women of the 'P' parties linked to gangsters over extremely talented men, such as these two, who are reputedly not linked to criminals?
Most parliamentarians have no accomplishments prior to their political involvement, so I am deeply suspicious that your comments have to do with their ethnicity rather than competence. Just a point of view - not yet an accusation - for you are lumping all of these men together as unacceptable and that is a disingenuous thing to do.
You should be specific in explaining your outright rejection of the kind of service either of these two men in particular could offer Jamaica as PM.
I am, etc.,
