Hypocrisy is our game
The Editor, Sir:
The Opposition has called for the removal of the Rev Al Miller, because he has been charged for fostering an action that they themselves had called for - the extradition of Christopher Coke.
Within the ranks of the Opposition People's National Party members of parliament is Kern Spencer against whom at least seven criminal charges have been preferred. Three of these relate to conspiracy to defraud. There was a fourth charge under the Anti-Corruption Act, relating to J$3.1 million which the police claimed Mr Spencer received under questionable circumstances. Spencer is also charged with three money-laundering offences, including a charge of concealing and disguising criminal property, transferring criminal property from Jamaica, and engaging in a transaction with criminal property.
Good sense
Spencer remains in the ranks of the PNP. The leadership of the party ignores Spencer but has called for the removal of Al Miller whom they cite as unfit to represent the people via a transformation initiative because he has two charges levelled against him. In fact, when he stepped aside recently as head of the National Transformation Programme, PNP chairman Robert Pickersgill said the move taken by Reverend Miller, shows that "good sense has prevailed". The fact is, Miller ensured that the police, the rest of the country and the international community achieved what was desired - the extradition of Coke alive. Where in the above mess can we reconcile the charges against Spencer with a good deed?
Nasty and convenient posturing will only sink Jamaica further.
I am, etc.,
DISAPPOINTED COMRADE
Miller
