Executive and senior chefs from across the island have signed up to be a part of the Seafood from Norway Culinary Adventure 2010, three one-day events presented by Norwegian chef, Espen Vesterdal Larsen, in Kingston, Ocho Rios and Montego Bay.

Some of the top chefs include president of the Culinary Federation of Jamaica Dennis McIntosh and personal chef for the French Ambassador Brain Lumley and executive chef of Couples Swept Away Anthony Miller, who won the 2009 Norway Challenge.

McIntosh agrees the Culinary Adventure presented by Norwegian Seafood Export Council (NSEC) is a great initiative. "As president of the Culinary Federation of Jamaica, I think it's an excellent opportunity for local chefs to participate in this event," said McIntosh. "This will help them to work with salt fish, which is a familiar product, but at the same time learn about its multiple uses."

The 2009-2010 Chef of the Year Kevin Broderick expresses similar sentiments. "I want to see other exciting ways to prepare salt fish," said Broderick. "We've grown up thinking ackee and salt fish and as a chef I always challenge myself to see what else can be done, so I'm excited to see what Chef Espen comes up with."

The NSEC, represented by Espen Larsen is hosting the event which will take place Tuesday, August 24 to Thursday, August 26, at the Wyndham Kingston, Royal Plantation, St Ann, and Tryall Club, Montego Bay. All three properties are supporting the event, with the Royal Plantation providing complimentary accommodation for the distinguished Chef Larsen.

Great chefs

Chef Larsen, first-place winner at World Cup Luxembourg 2006 and Norwegian Confectioner Champion 1997, says he is looking forward to meeting Jamaica's great chefs, and exploring with them creative and non-traditional methods of preparing recipes using salt fish from Norway.

This is the third annual Seafood from Norway Culinary Adventure. The Adventure first started in 2008 with popular Brazilian Chef Dada. Last year's Adventure was presented by Chef Sven Erik Renaa, Best Norwegian Chef in 2008.
