Pre-University School to graduate 80 nurses

EIGHTY women and men will graduate next Saturday from the Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) programme run by the Pre-University School based at the Mona campus of the University of the West Indies.

The LPN programme is run in partnership with NorQuest College in Canada, which developed the curriculum and oversees the examination process, and will also endorse the certificates presented to graduates.

Pre-University School has located jobs in Canada for the 80 graduates through collaboration with Canadian job placement firm, Marmicmon Integrated Marketing Communication.

Canada has a growing market for nurses because of its ageing population. Some estimates indicate a shortage of 80,000 to 100,000 nurses by 2016. LPNs are required mainly in the area of long-term care of elderly patients in nursing homes, but their services are also employed in other areas of health care.
