RIPTON MacPHERSON, a former Speaker of the House of Representatives, is dead.
He died last night at the age of 88.
MacPherson served as Speaker of the House from 1972-1980.
Prime Minister Bruce Golding says Jamaica is experiencing a heart-breaking moment as the country laments the passing of the former Speaker of the House.
Describing him as a leading public servant, Golding expressed regret at MacPherson's passing.
MacPherson, who was successful twice at the polls on a People's National Party ticket, represented the St Catherine South Eastern and St Catherine Southern constituencies.
