All roads led to Palace Amusement Cineplex for the International Women's Forum (IWF) movie premiere of The King's Speech on Tuesday.

Sovereign Centre on Hope Road was inundated with some of Jamaica's business leaders, among others, who came out to show their support and see the film based on the true story of King George VI. Many anticipated a good movie. As they waited enthusiastically, guests sipped glasses of red wine, engaged in their own little speeches and shared a few laughs.

At 8 p.m., it was time to grab the popcorn, soda or hot dog and get seated for what promised to be a great film. First president of IWF Pat Ramsay, gave her own little speech. She explained that IWF is a non-profit organisation geared towards advancing women's leadership groups across careers, cultures and continents by connecting the world's most pre-eminent women.

Leadership training

The IWF is also big on mentorship and started the Leadership Fellows Programme in 1994. The programme provides leadership training for a diverse group of women from various ethnic, professional and geographic backgrounds who have the potential to become tomorrow's CEOs and principal leaders.

Ramsay also pointed out that each year the organisation selects representatives for the unique opportunity to receive executive training in conjunction with the IWF Global Leadership Conference, and at customised programmes at Harvard Business School and INSEAD, The Business School for the World. She said all proceeds from the premiere will aid the programme.

Greetings done, it was show time!
