It's official! The 2011 carnival season is on in true bacchanal style. Launched on Wednesday at the Knutsford Court Hotel, this year's theme is 'Once Upon A Dynasty'. According to Bacchanal Jamaica head honcho Michael Ammar Jr, this represents the greatness of historical kingdoms, legends and dynasties.

The nine costume sections reflect the theme and are a combination of bright colours and warm earth tones. The costume parade was definitely the highlight of the night for many, as guests got the chance to see them up close.

The first weekly event for the season starts on February 18. The 2011 events calendar includes Soca-cise which begins on February 28; Beach J'Ouvert on April 23; Soca at the Sandbar on April 27, and Bacchanal J'Ouvert on April 29. Bacchanal Road March is set for Sunday, May 1.
