IT WAS school as usual at the Glendevon Primary and Junior High School, as no special function was held to honour the teachers but some students obliged with cards and poems and tokens of appreciation.
It was a stark contrast at the Hosanna Preparatory School, where teachers, though at school got a rest day. Grade-six students dressed up as teachers and administrators and took over classrooms and offices for the day.
Principal Ephraim Morgan said it was good to have the students engaging in role play, as it allowed them to experience some of the challenges teachers and administrators face daily.
greater appreciation
"One male student said to me, 'I did not know you faced so many challenges, sir', so I know he now has a greater appreciation for what teachers do here daily. The students really did extremely well, we are proud of them."
The school's Parent-Teacher Association later treated the teachers to lunch at the China House Restaurant.
Meanwhile, Albion Primary and Junior High hosted a special devotion where the teachers were given motivational talks by a pastor, who urged them to draw their inspiration from the master teacher - Jesus.
Teachers at Howard Cooke Primary were serenaded by students and honoured with citations and poems. All this preceded lunch and games at the Sea Gardens Resort.
The Chetwood Memorial Primary School had classes as usual for the day, but honoured its teachers and a number of retired teachers in the evening with a retirement and appreciation service at the Wexford Hotel.
