Politicians are no gangsters

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I read with much consternation your series of articles characterising both political parties as gangs of Parliament.

Your unfortunate assertion smacks of contempt for the hallowed houses of Parliament and gross disrespect for those who have made tremendous sacrifice in public service.

I take strong offence to your gangster designation of my colleagues on both sides of the political divide. I dare say, I am a proud member of a political organisation whose primary mission is to improve the lot of the people we seek to represent.

My political activism is fuelled by my undeviating commitment and unwavering passion to serve my country through public service and I absolutely repudiate and reject such characterisation.

It is my observation that no other group is more sensitive than the Fourth Estate to criticism, even when given in good faith. Can you imagine the uproar that would ensue if we politicians dare describe you as gangsters?

Your irresponsible and insensitive articles risk exposing my children to embarrassment and ridicule, as no doubt their peers will see them as the offspring of gangsters.

Further, your failure to identify the author(s) of these articles is cowardice and reveals a sinister agenda.

I humbly ask that you afford politicians the respect you demand of us.

I am, etc.,
