WESTERN BUREAU:Sheldon Headley, a Montegonian who defrauded a motor vehicle buyer of $250,000 several months ago, was back in court on Tuesday for bilking another man of over $1 million.
Headley is charged before the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court with fraudulent conversion against Wesley Dayes involving the sum of J$1.45 million. However, the details of the allegations were not read in court.
The matter was mentioned moments after Headley's first case was settled with a decision for repayment of the full sum of $250,000 he took from Jerry Jackson for the purchase of a Mercedes motor car he failed to deliver.
The court was told that Headley had already repaid $600,000 to Dayes outside of court, bringing the current outstanding balance to $1.39 million.
"What Mr Headley is asking for is an adjournment until September 17 to give US$1,500 to Mr Dayes. There's a cheque which came from his father overseas which is at the bank, but it needs some time to clear," the defendant's attorney, Martyn Thomas, told Resident Magistrate Vivienne Harris.
"What I have is assurances from his family that the money will be paid."
At the lawyer's request, the case was subsequently set for mention on September 17, at which time Headley is expected to take the outstanding money to repay the complainant.
