WESTERN BUREAU:

Working at his father's company helped him to build a solid work ethic, and 24-year-old Henry McCurdy Jr says he is ready to chart his own path in entrepreneurship.

His latest effort, a partnership with brothers Levar and Maurice McCurdy, is the McCurdy Brothers Services Company, which specialises in cleaning and maintenance services for commercial and residential properties.

As the chief executive officer, young McCurdy's role is even more challenging as he is responsible for ensuring that the team and the company grow and maximise on their potential to be a profitable entity.

"I have lived in Montego Bay all my life and part of the reason we wanted to initiate this business was to help clean up the city, and in so doing, create employment," McCurdy Jr noted. "Our primary function is to create a one-stop shop for persons and businesses to get the cleaning and maintenance duties done."

Waiting for the right time

While the business was established earlier this year, the young entrepreneur explained that the process was being developed for some time, and now that the groundwork has been done, the time is right to make their services available.

He said that McCurdy Brothers Services Company provides cleaning services across the board.

The company's website, www.mbsja.com, offers contact details for the team.

"Operating out of a central office in Catherine Hall, our professionally trained servicing crew is on a mission to clean up Montego Bay, and the rest of Jamaica by extension. The services are not limited to western Jamaica, and so wherever you are, our crew can be there to get the job done," McCurdy Jr added.

Being a young businessman is not without its share of challenges, especially in a competitive business environment.

"Are there any challenges? Yes, as with any start-up. Nevertheless, we remain committed to the process of offering a well-needed service and being able to employ persons at a time when the economy is dictating otherwise."
