Pork Fest to help with Jamaica's glut

MONTEGO BAY, St James: A group of creative event promoters in Montego Bay have decided to host Jamaica's first Pork Fest against the backdrop of a pork glut in the country on Saturday, October 13.

Kareem Jennings, the CEO of Elite Conceptz and Solutionz, said the goal is to showcase the culinary diversity of this meat kind while facilitating an atmosphere where families can enjoy a day of food and entertainment.

"The supply of pork far outweighs the demand. In addition, our promotions group is more than just putting on parties. We want everyone to be able to have a good time, and food brings people together."

Earlier this week, Agriculture Minister Roger Clarke encouraged Jamaicans to eat more pork to help farmers with the oversupply of the meat in the island.

Jennings, who is also a member of Antidote Entertainment, added that it is not the first time that the group is hosting a culinary event as it successfully executed MoBay Crab Fest earlier this year.

MoBay Pork Fest will take the form of a day-and-night event at Highway Escape Car Wash and Bar near Reading, St James, and will feature a succulent pig-carving station, honey-glazed ham, pork hot dogs, barbecue spare ribs, and jerked pork, among other tasty treats.

"It is all about pork come Heroes Day weekend in Montego Bay, and we just want everyone to come out and be a part of this culinary celebration of one of Jamaica's favourite meat kinds. We will have chicken and fish prepared for our non-pork lovers, so this event is for everyone," Jennings said. "Events of this nature also help our local farmers as well, so this is a great benefit to the community and families."

Adults will pay $500 for admission while children can enter free. The event will also showcase entertainment from Montego Bay's own DJ Kingpin, Timeless, Crazy Chris, Pinchers, and DJ Tippy.
