Western Bureau:Reigning champions Fighter Jet started their quarter-final campaign in the Premier League phase of the 2012 Wray & Nephew sponsored White Overproof Rum Western Domino League last weekend, scoring a 300-290 win over Dynamic Strikers in Duncans, Trelawny.

In a contest in which they were pushed to the limits, Fighter Jet, which won the 'champion of champions' trophy alongside their premier league title last year, never lost their composure in the match-up and in the end, closed much stronger than their opponents.

In the second game of what was an entertaining double-header, Cool Vibes bowed into the quarter-finals phase of the Division One League in fine style, defeating Ewing Striker 300-283.

$400,000 sponsorship purse

The premier league, which has attracted the vast majority of the competition's $400,000 sponsorship purse; is being contested by champions Fighter Jet, Assassin, Tropical Riddim, Tuff Gong, Deeside, Tornado and Dynamic Strikers.

The breakdown of the premier league prize package reads as follows: first place - $100,000 second place - $70,000 third place - $50,000 and $30,000.

In the Division One League quarter-finals, the contenders are champions Uptown, Cool Wave, Ewing Strikers, Slickers, Unity Strikers, Rainbow and Destiny.

The breakdown of prize money for the Division One reads as follows: The champions - $65,000, second place - $40,000, third place - $30,000 and fourth place - $15,000.

"This is certainly the most competitive season we have had in the history of this league in terms of the quality of the games we have seen in both the Premier League and the Division One," said Walford Morgraige, president of the Western Domino League. "This year has been hot, very hot and a big improvement over last year."

The competition will continue this Sunday with a Premier League game at Dynamic Bar on Union Street, in Montego Bay. In the game slated for 1 p.m., Tropical Riddim will lock horn with Assassin.
