New court date for ganja accused

WESTERN BUREAU:A St James woman, who was arrested last December after the police found 110 pounds of ganja at her mother's house where she was staying at the time, had her bail extended to May 16 when she appeared in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court last Thursday.

Twenty-seven-year-old Tashoya Colquhoun, who is of a Cornwall Courts address in Montego Bay, was charged with possession of and dealing in ganja arising from the contraband that was found by the lawman.

The allegations are that at approximately 4 p.m. on December 3, 2012, a police officer went to a house in the Norwood area to execute a search warrant. When he arrived at the house, he reportedly saw Colquhoun and had a conversation with her.

The officer searched two barrels and found three plastic bags, which contained ganja. When questioned about the contents of the plastic bags, Colquhoun reportedly told the lawman that the ganja belonged to her mother.

Despite denying that the ganja belonged to her, Colquhoun was taken into custody and subsequently arrested and charged. Her mother was not at home at the time.

In court last Thursday, Colquhoun was given a new court date after the prosecution told presiding Magistrate Sandria Wong-Small that the forensic certificate needed to prosecute the case was still absent from its case file.

"We are asking for the third or fourth week in May to continue the case as the forensic certificate should be ready by then," clerk of the court Reginald England told Resident Magistrate Wong-Small.

"Miss Colquhoun, this matter will be mentioned before the court again on May 16," Wong-Small told Colquhoun. "We are still awaiting the forensic certificate. Your bail is extended until that date."
