WESTERN BUREAU:Defending champions and favourites First Choice made it two wins from two starts in the 2013 Gas Pro Western Masters Football League on Sunday when they defeated Life TV 2-0 in their Zone 'A' game at the Flanker Playing Field in Montego Bay.

In another game played on Sunday, former champions and perennial title contenders, Violet Tourers, clipped Advent Masters 2-1 in the second of the two Zone 'A' games.

In their game against Life TV, former Rusea's daCosta Cup star striker Alme McFarlane, who got the lone goal in the team's first-round 1-0 win against Challenger Masters, was again on target, getting one of the two goals. Michael 'Chicken' Stewart got the second goal.

"This is exactly how we expected to start the season," said Gary Malcolm, player and coordinator of the First Choice team. "Like we did last year, our plan is to dominate the league and emerge champions again."

By virtue of their win, First Choice now has a maximum six points from their two games, which makes them the undisputed leaders of Zone 'A'.

For their part, the Violet Tourers, who were making their season debut, had the much better game against the gutsy Advent Masters and were deserving winners. Maxwell McKenzie and Delroy Gayle got the goals for the George- Evans led aggregation, while Clive Boyd got Advent Masters' consolation goal.

ZONE DIVISIONS

The competition, which is sponsored to the tune of $200,000 by Gas Pro, is being contested by 10 teams divided into two zones of five teams each. The teams are as follows: Zone 'A': First Choice, Challenger Masters, Life TV Masters, Advent Masters and Violet Tourers. Zone 'B': Hanover Masters, Sandy Bay Masters, Jamaica, Brazil, Queen of Spain, Masters, and Logwood Stump.

The competition will continue tomorrow with four games, two in Zone 'A' and two in Zone 'B'. The fixture reads as follows: In Zone 'A', Violet Tourers will meet Challengers at West Green, and Advent Masters battle Life TV at the UDC playing field. In Zone 'B', Sandy Bay Masters will entertain Logwood Stump at Kenilworth, in Hanover, while Jamaica Brazil will host Queen of Spain at Herbert Morrison Technical High School.

The eventual champions of the competition will take home the Steve Bucknor Trophy and gold medals while the second-and third- place finishers will take home silver and bronze medals, respectively.
