WESTERN BUREAU:A St James man who was arrested for selling pillows outside of a designated vending area was ordered to pay a fine of $2,000 when he appeared in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court on Monday.

Anthony Clarke, of a Barnett Street address in Montego Bay, pleaded guilty to the charge of exposing goods for sale without a licence when his case was brought before presiding magistrate Natalie Hart-Hines. However, the details behind his arrest were not disclosed in court.

"Is there any reason why you did not just go into the market?" Hart-Hines asked Clarke.

"I left the pillows on a fence and went to bathe, and when I came back, they were gone. I had made them from the night before," said Clarke.

"But you were selling them on Barnett Street?" asked Hart-Hines.

"Yes, your honour," Clarke conceded.

"You will pay a fine of $2,000 or spend 10 days in jail," said RM Hart-Hines.

In addition, an order was made to cancel a warrant for Clarke's arrest, which had been made after he failed to attend court on December 19 to answer to the charge of exposing goods for sale.
