Do you think musicians who record lyrics that incite crime and violence should face prosecution under the proposed anti-gang legislation?
Horace Kerr
It is a good thing. When you travel on public transportation and hear the kind of music that is played, you don't want to be in those taxis. I fully support it. Let's hope they'll have a referendum so we all can vote on it.
Courtney Taylor
This should have been done from way back when because most of the lewd lyrics are basically inciting violence. But even so, I think it is more than that. … Some of the shows that the kids are watching are also inciting violence.
Kenneth Vincent
I totally agree. The lyrics carry lots of Jamaicans astray right now; too much hyping and boasting and exaltment over nothing. As far as I have seen in my 58 years, love has gone from the people. Music has taken away the love.
Recardo Brown
I am a dancehall artiste so I don't support any law that will prosecute artistes. Yes, dancehall does put out lewd lyrics, but that is what makes the music interesting and separates it from all other music. Lewdness has its place in dancehall.
Latoya Dhana
I don't agree. I think that artistes should do two versions of their songs because all artistes should be allowed to express themselves. Some persons also like the X-rated songs, and so the music must also cater to them.
Marlene Phillips
I support that 100 per cent. Today's music is a bad influence on the young because they look up to these artistes as role models and their songs are used for motivation, and young people think the violent lyrics define them in society.
