Ocho Rios crime concerns mount

The St. Ann Police are seeking to assure the business community that increased efforts are being made to contain the crime problem in the resort town of Ocho Rios.

According to Deputy Superintendent Dalton Wright, the police have offered to provide escort services to business operators transporting large sums of money.

He also says the police have provided business operators with security tips.

However, DSP Wright says entrepreneurs must implement their own measures to protect their property and their customers.

Residents and business operators in Ocho Rios have been raising concerns about the recent spate of robberies and break-ins in the town.

It’s understood that since last Friday, there has been at least five hold-ups and or break-ins.

DSP Wright acknowledges that there has been an increase in robberies in the recent days, but he says they are isolated cases.

Some business owners say they’re not satisfied with the level of policing in Ocho Rios.

They have called for the police increase their presence and operations in the town.

Meanwhile, DSP Wright says the police have partnered with the St Ann Parish Council, the Chamber of Commerce and other organisations to tackle the crime issue.
