The Audi A3 has a storied lineage, first introduced in 1996 as a compact car based on the Volkswagen Group A platform. Its development marked Audi’s entry into the premium small-car segment, a move that proved highly successful. Over the years, the A3 has consistently evolved, embracing new technologies and refining its design language. We are now in the model’s fourth generation, an indication of its enduring appeal and Audi’s commitment to continuous improvement. While a popular hatchback variant is available globally, my focus for this review is on the sleek sedan. For those unfamiliar, Audi’s nomenclature typically uses ‘A’ for its traditional saloon and hatchback models while ‘Q’ denotes its sport utility vehicle range.

Outside

From a visual standpoint, the 2025 Audi A3 Sedan presents a refined and contemporary aesthetic. The front fascia is dominated by Audi’s signature Singleframe grille, which is broader and more assertive than in previous iterations, giving the car a confident stance. The sharp, angular LED headlights, with their distinctive daytime running-light signature, integrate seamlessly into the front design. Character lines are subtly etched along the body panels, creating a sense of movement and depth without being overly dramatic. These lines flow elegantly from the front wings, across the doors, and culminate at the rear. The rear of the vehicle features slim LED tail lights that mirror the angularity of the front, connected by a subtle chrome strip that enhances the car’s width. The overall design language speaks to Audi’s commitment to clean, uncluttered surfaces and precise panel gaps, conveying a sense of quality and attention to detail.

When considering its proportions, the A3 Sedan distinguishes itself from its larger sibling, the A4. While both share Audi’s characteristic design cues, the A3 Sedan is noticeably more compact, offering a nimble and agile presence ideal for urban environments and tighter parking spaces. The A4, conversely, projects a more substantial and executive saloon feel.

Interior

Stepping inside the 2025 A3 Sedan, one is immediately struck by the polished and refined atmosphere. It is a space that truly exudes creature comforts, and I genuinely appreciated the thoughtful touches. The adjustable armrest, for instance, provides excellent support and can be precisely tailored to individual preference. A small yet significant detail is the rear ceiling light, which extends closer to the rear-seat passengers and is angled towards each occupant, providing ample and directed illumination – a welcome feature for reading or simply enhancing the rear cabin ambience.

A practical and innovative inclusion is the wireless charging pad, ingeniously tilted at an angle. This design ensures that a phone remains securely in place, even during spirited driving, preventing it from sliding off – a common frustration with flat charging pads. The infotainment system is remarkably intuitive and responsive, seamlessly integrating with the digital instrument cluster. The six-speaker audio system provides exceptional clarity and rich, well-balanced sound, making every journey a more enjoyable experience. My only minor quibble, and it is a minor one, is the exclusive reliance on USB Type-C ports. While future-proof, I do wish there was at least one traditional Type A port for broader compatibility with older devices.

The standard seating comes in a durable black cloth, offering a comfortable and practical option. Naturally, the usual array of premium features is available, including electrically adjustable front seats, a light/rain sensor for automatic headlight and wiper activation, and an ambient lighting package that allows for customisable interior illumination. The automatically dimming, frameless interior mirror adds a touch of modern sophistication.

For practicality, the boot capacity measures a respectable 10.9 cubic feet, sufficient for daily errands and weekend luggage. Rear legroom is adequate at 35.2 inches, providing comfortable space for most adults on shorter journeys. There are also adequate cup holders strategically placed throughout the cabin, and rear air-conditioning vents ensure comfort for all occupants.

Driving Experience

The true essence of any vehicle lies in its driving dynamics, and the 2025 Audi A3 Sedan, with its 1.4-litre turbocharged engine, genuinely impressed. The first thing that comes to mind is its commendable fuel efficiency. This car truly sips petrol, making it an economical choice for daily commuting and longer trips alike. For the most part, the car feels nippy and eager, responding promptly to throttle inputs. The handling is super responsive, allowing for swift and precise manoeuvres. Should a pothole unexpectedly appear, the car’s agility allows for rapid navigation around it, instilling a sense of confidence in its control.

The 1.4-litre turbocharged engine delivers its power smoothly and efficiently, performing optimally across various driving conditions. Pushing out 148 horsepower, the overall impression is one of balanced performance suitable for urban driving and motorway cruising. The suspension setup strikes a commendable balance between comfort and sportiness, absorbing road imperfections effectively while maintaining a composed and controlled ride. The different driving modes, accessible via Audi Drive Select, allow for customisation of the car’s character, adjusting parameters such as steering weight, throttle response, and transmission mapping to suit individual preferences or driving conditions.
