Can we get a timeline on work permit regulations?

THE EDITOR, Madam:

I am writing with reference to the article, ‘Hinds promises stricter work permit regulations to protect J’can jobs,’ published in The Gleaner on June 11.

Both Hinds and the minister of labour, Pearnel Charles Jr, need to give a timeline when they expect to start and finish their promises. The general election is due in September, so it is time for the promises to cease and desist. I am not implying that the promises are illegal or harmful.

On February 28, The Gleaner published the article, “Labour ministry to introduce new work permit management system.”

It is 27 days short of four months since that article was published, and the minister of labour, Pearnel Charles Jr, has not given the people an update of his promise that ‘the work permit regime is now under review’.
