Prisoner charged in death of fellow inmate at St Mary police station
A 23-year-old inmate has been charged with murder following the fatal stabbing of another prisoner at the Annotto Bay Police Station lock-up in St Mary.
The accused is Nolando Atkinson, a construction worker of Boscobel View in the parish.
He was charged on Monday in connection with the death of 34-year-old inmate Eraldo Francis, a contractor of Tremolsworth, Highgate, in the parish, a statement said.
According to reports from the Port Maria Police, shortly after midday on Saturday, December 6, a disturbance broke out among inmates housed at the lock-up.
Police intervened to restore order, after which Francis was discovered unresponsive with stab wounds to his chest.
He was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
An investigation was subsequently launched, and Atkinson was later implicated based on statements collected by investigators.
He was formally charged following a question-and-answer interview on Sunday.
