ST KITTS - Move to challege Hamilton's eligibility set for next week
St Kitts (CMC):
A petition challenging the eligibility of opposition legislator Eugene Hamilton to contest the general election in St Kitts and Nevis will now be heard next week.
The case was original scheduled for July 26, but Hamilton said he had been informed that the judge, who is due here from the British Virgin Islands, will begin hearing the matter from July 19.
Scheduled date
"The case was scheduled to begin on the 26th which is two Mondays from now, and it was scheduled from the 26th to the 28th. It is pleasing that the judge should bring it forward to the week of the 19th because both petition could be heard the same week," Hamilton said.
The case has been brought by former parliamentarian Cedric Liburd of the ruling St. Kitts and Nevis Labour Party, who claims that Hamilton had pledged allegiance to a foreign power or state in contravention of the island's constitution.
