NSWMA to meet private contractors in Jamaica

The National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA) is to hold discussions with private garbage contractors across the island following the discovery of a child’s body at the Riverton City landfill in St. Andrew on Sunday.

NSWMA Executive Director, Joan Gordon-Webley this morning met with the private contractor from whose truck the body was dumped as well as officials from the Kingston Public Hospital (KPH) and Public Health officials.

She says during the meeting a decision was made to embark on a drive to sensitise private contractors on the regulations relating to the dumping of solid waste.

Meanwhile, Webley says the NSWMA is yet to identify where the baby’s body came from.

However, she says information received indicates it could have come from the Kingston Public Hospital (KPH).
