Tempers flare in Parliament

The delays by the Goverment of Jamaica (GOJ) to provide answers to questions regarding developments in the Manatt affair, today resulted in the flaring of tempers of members of the Opposition.

The Opposition Spokesman on Finance Dr. Omar Davies had on July 27 posed questions related to the email messages reportedly exchanged between the solicitor general and the law firm Manatt, Phelps and Phillips (MPP).

During this afternoon’s sitting Dr. Davies questioned the powers of the House.

The leader of Government Business in the House, Andrew Holness explained that the prime minister was off the island and would provide the answers at the next sitting.

The Manatt emails were released in a Sunday Gleaner expose last month.

At this point the Opposition Leader Portia Simpson-Miller insisted that answers be provided regardless of the public release of the Manatt emails government’s record of handling questions posed in the House and again sought to assure that the answers will be provided.
