THE EDITOR, Sir: Congratulation to those students who were successful in the GSAT examination, and good wishes to those who were not successful, but this is only the beginning to a new start...

THE EDITOR, Sir:THE results of the Grade Six Achievement Test (GSAT) are quite confusing to parents, students, teachers and the public at large.

THE EDITOR, Sir: The Grade Six Achievement Test (GSAT) monster has raised its ugly head once more. How I hate this time of the year when the grade-six students are made to endure the terror of the GSAT monster!

THE EDITOR, Sir: A FEW months ago, the Kingston and St Andrew Corporation embarked on an ambitious and well-needed project to rid the city of sidewalk garages to restore some law and order to the city.

THE EDITOR, Sir:BELOW is my letter of resignation from the Jamaica Labour Party, dated June 17, 2010, and sent to the general secretary.

Dear Daddy:I don't know if you read the papers.

I READ the Letter of the Day from Patrick Gallimore and would like to congratulate him for sharing his concerns. Although I agree with his concerns, rather than our parliamentarians voting their consciences, which among Jamaican politicians seem to have become extremely weak, I would rather they vote the will of the people who sent them to Parliament.

IT IS CLEAR that a number of steps are already in train to clean up the society. In the last few months, civil society has publicly pressured politicians to relinquish their ties with criminals and allow the security forces to do their job. It is early days yet, but already, some dividends are being reaped in this area.

Recently, there was a big announcement that the ban on water restrictions had been lifted. Someone seems to have omitted Sundown Crescent (off Molynes Road) in this 'no water lock-off' bonanza.

AS WE approach Father's Day, I wonder how many of the young men who died in the Tivoli Gardens incursion grew up with a father in the household. As a former juvenile counsellor, in Jamaica and the United States, I notice one common denominator between both countries: most juvenile delinquents and teenage criminals did not grow up with a full-time father.

Many years ago, my grand-father voted in a garrison community for the opposite side. Someone opened his ballot and the result was that my grandfather's home was firebombed.

THE EDITOR, Sir:I AM saddened at the fact that the Opposition seems hell-bent on tearing down and criticising almost everything the government does.It says to me that they either put the concerns of their party...

THE EDITOR, Sir:WITH DUE respect to the Clarke family, and sensitivity to the circumstances surrounding the ill-fated operations by the security forces in upper Kirkland Heights that left Keith Clarke dead, I dare ask an important question: What if some...

THE EDITOR, Sir: THIS IS in response to Z. Mclean's letter posted in yesterday's Gleaner - 'Garrison voters must have no say in elections'.

THE EDITOR, Sir: HERE WE go again, another Jamaican suggesting that some Jamaicans should not enjoy the privilege of electing their representative in Parliament.

THE EDITOR, Sir: I AM expressing my anguish and disgust over the careless, worthless and disappointing West Indies cricket team. We are tired (extremely tired, exhausted and fed up) of the embarrassment, the inconsistency, the bagful of insincere promises: 'We will do better next time, and blah, blah'.

On April 22, I came back home to visit my ailing father. I arrived in Montego Bay and had to travel to St Mary. I rented a car in Montego Bay. Just outside of Falmouth I was stopped by a cop in a spot check. He checked the papers and said the insurance had expired.

Jamaicans, let us take back our beautiful country from criminals and corrupt politicians, etc.

Published:Thursday | June 17, 2010 | 12:00 AM

I totally agree that law enforcement should do everything in its power to root out criminals. I pray that by this time next year, there will be no more dons anywhere in Jamaica. In the meantime, we do have some bad apples in the security forces.

I fully agree with this suggestion for soldiers to topple gangsters. Give the troops the power and equipment to destroy the gangs and dons in of Jamaica.

Published:Thursday | June 17, 2010 | 12:00 AM

I feel that it is time for the two political parties to find a common ground to minimise crime to the lowest level and give the police more control over the criminals.
